In a bid to promote decency and uphold moral values on campus, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced a new dress code policy that will be strictly enforced starting from the 2022/2023 academic session.
According to the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi, the new policy aims to address the growing trend of indecent dressing among students, which has been a major concern for the university administration.
The policy stipulates that all students must dress decently and appropriately at all times while on campus.
Female students are expected to wear skirts or dresses that are knee-length or below, and they are not allowed to wear sleeveless or backless outfits.
Male students are required to wear shirts and trousers, and they must not wear sagging pants or shirts that expose their chests.

In a statement issued by the university, Prof. Obi stated that the new policy is necessary to maintain a conducive learning environment, as well as to promote the institution’s core values of discipline, hard work, and excellence.
The university has also warned that any student who violates the dress code policy will face disciplinary action, which may include suspension or expulsion from the university.
The new dress code policy has received mixed reactions from students, with some expressing support for the initiative while others see it as an infringement on their personal freedom.
However, the university has urged students to comply with the new policy, stating that it is in the best interest of everyone to maintain a conducive and respectful learning environment.
